BLXST with his latest EP “Just For Clarity 2” comprises four songs, featuring Mustard and Terrace
Martin on “Ghetto Cinderella,” Roddy Ricch on “Passionate,” Larry June on “Keep Calling,” and a solo track titled “Call My Bluff.”
Blxst is one of my favorite emerging artists that took the music industry by storm, Although his rise to stardom may look over night, he has been a producer/writer for many artists before signing his deal with Red Blue Records that launched his career. For those who may be just getting familiar with blxst and his discography, I will be touching over some of his career high lights later on in this article. But for now, we MUST talk about how perfectly tasteful this E.P truly is.
The EP opens with Ghetto Cinderella which is produced by Mustard and written by Dijon McFarlane and Matthew Burdette (Blxst)The track opens straight to a hooky verse with simple but catchy production we would expect from mustard. In typical Blxst fashion, its hook after hook through the entire EP that makes you want to drive up and down the coast of PCH with your windows down. Its a feel good vibe that will leave you spinning it over and over.
From 2014 to 2021, Blxst’s music career began with TIU Muzic, a hip hop collective where he gained experience in the industry and a local following. He produced “Do Yo Gudda (Remix)” by Hitta J3 featuring Kendrick Lamar, YG, and Problem in 2014, and in 2015, he founded his label Evgle and became a creative director for his graphic design and music videos. Blxst released his first solo track “Who Would’ve Thought” in 2016, followed by a string of independent singles in 2018, including a collaboration with Eric Bellinger. In 2019, his first hit single “Hurt” was released, which garnered millions of streams. Blxst then released a collaboration EP with Bino Rideaux called Sixtape in August 2019.
In 2020, Blxst’s debut EP No Love Lost (I literally listened to this 500 times at the very least) was released on September 4, in partnership with Red Bull Records. The EP featured singles such as “Overrated”, “No Love Lost”, and “Be Alone”, and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A deluxe edition was later released in December 2020, with additional features from Ty Dolla Sign, Tyga, Dom Kennedy, and Bino Rideaux. Blxst then released a two-track EP titled Just for Clarity in March 2021, which included “Don’t Forget” featuring Drakeo the Ruler and “Fck Boys” featuring Russ. He was also included on the annual XXL Freshman Class in the same year. On July 16, Blxst released Sixtape 2 with Bino Rideaux.
From 2021 to the present, Blxst released the single “About You” on December 3, 2021, with the music video following on January 26, 2022. He released another single, “Sometimes” featuring Zacari, on March 3. On April 22, 2022, Blxst released his debut album, Before You Go. He also appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, on the song “Die Hard” with Amanda Reifer on May 13.
