Follow Hannah Robinson
Hannah Robinson has released her first single of 2023. “When I Was High,” is the followup to her last two singles, “nineteen’ and “Hypnotised.” Hannah Robinson was recently chosen as the BBC Introducing Tip of 2023, after garnering international attention with her previous singles.
With a unique sound and genre, Hanna Robinson is setting herself apart from most of the indie releases this year. Dreamgaze or Shoehgaze pop is not a common style in pop culture, but Hannah has the vocal talent and writing style that suits it. One of my favorites of this style is Beach House, they do it well as a band. But Hannah Robinson, in my opinion, does it better. (Sorry not sorry?)
Hannah Robinson and the meaning behind “When I Was High”
Born from feelings of self-doubt and frustration with life and love, this single is filled to the brim with everything that could set Hannah apart from other dream pop artists. The vulnerable lyrics about chasing romances that were never really romances and the feeling of losing hope are delivered beautifully with haunting vocals.
“I fell into this delusion of wanting to feel loved by someone to the point where I got completely absorbed by it. With all this anger I felt, I had to interpret it musically which is why this track perfectly captures that emotional build-up I had brewing inside. ‘When I Was High’ is for those who have felt led on, who didn’t know where they stood or what they stood for, it’s for those who s it and question their relationships and need that honest reminder that if they wanted to, they would, and don’t settle for any less than what you deserve.” – Hannah Robinson
Hannah is one to watch, she has the ability to become an alternative pop star, like The Cranberries or Hole. You can catch her at a stripped-back headline show at The Lost Wanderer on the 27th of May, and she is also due to perform at Northern Kin, Coastella, and A Stone’s Throw festival this summer!
